Wrong Way Event is available in intuVision VA’s Traffic module.
Wrong Way detects a vehicle moving in the user specified wrong direction, against the allowed flow of traffic. Indicating a security and safety risk, drivers may go against the marked direction of traffic accidentally (not seeing signage), or on purpose to save time or bypass making payments. Wrong Way Event is used on highways and on-ramps, and most commonly on small residential roads or enters and exits of parking lots. Wrong Way detection can be used both to generate alerts and tickets for those breaking the rules or to collect data on driver behavior.
For traffic studies, Wrong Way Event can be used to indicate road segments where people commonly move against the flow of traffic, as well as time periods when this behavior is observed. Municipalities can take measures based on this information, to adjust and improve signage, or allocating police staff to the specific areas at the relevant times.
For warning and ticketing applications, Wrong Way detection alerts and image snapshots of the vehicles can be sent to authorities. For example, a warning can be issued to drivers going the wrong way in a parking garage as a short-cut to desirable parking spots.
Using object classification, people and bicycles are excluded from the alerts, in areas with mixed traffic. Alerts can be separated by vehicle type, for example passenger vehicles, trucks, busses, motorcycles, etc.
Optional settings are available to fine-tune the event, including:
When combined with compound events and unlimited object classification options, Wrong Way Event can be further refined, to meet custom video analytics requirements with our off-the-shelf product without the need for any development time. For example, Wrong Way can be used with a schedule on flex lanes – allowing travel in one direction and other during the morning or evening commute times.
