intuVision VA Core Event - Throughput

Throughput is a Core Video Analytics Event to detect when a moving object crosses both active edges of the zone.

Throughput Event

Throughput is a Core Video Analytics Event, available in all intuVision VA modules.

Throughput detects when a moving object crosses both active edges of the zone, in the specified direction. This allows for a more nuanced alternative to basic line crossing, maintaining tracked objects throughout the scene as they cross over multiple active edges. Active edges can be placed close together for simple use cases or placed further apart to meet complex event requirements.

Optional and advanced settings are available to fine-tune the event, including:

  • Alarm direction: left, right, or both.
  • Object’s bounding box must be contained within the zone between crossing each active edge.

Throughput is a versatile event used across many application areas, from collecting traffic data, detecting security breaching, tracking operational efficiency in manufacturing - the uses are endless. Using Throughput in intuVision VA’s compound events along with unlimited, user trained, object classification provides a building block for meeting custom video analytics requirements with our off-the-shelf product without the need for any development time.

Throughput offers easy vehicle counting, with counts separated by lane and classification type. Compound events can be used to create I/O matrices, tracking where vehicles enter and exit intersections or rotaries.

Sample Use Cases:

  • Basic use case –
    • Requirement – Count trays on conveyor belts in factory setting.
    • Solution – Train object classification to count full trays moving along conveyor belt. Use directional setting to ensure trays are only counted during typical belt operation.
  • Advanced use case –
    • Requirement – Generate turn count data within intersection, separated by classification type.
    • Solution - – Separate the active edges of Throughput event, placing one over the entrance to and exit of the intersection. Throughput will trigger when the same object passes both edges. With trained classification, vehicles are counted as the best matched vehicle type.
