intuVision VA Event - Loitering

Loitering is a manufacturing, retail, and security event that works with intuVision trained object classification to detect when a person stays in one location for the user specified time.

Loitering Event

Loitering Event is available in intuVision VA’s Manufacturing, Retail, and Security modules.

Loitering works with intuVision trained object classification to detect when a person stays in one location for the user specified time. Leveraging the patented intuVision VA stationary object detector, objects which have come to a stop and stay at a standstill or meander slowly, are maintained which allows alerts after the user set duration. Depending on the use case, the maximum allowable object center movement setting accounts for people pacing, moving their arms, or crouching down.

In the manufacturing domain, Loitering event can be used to collect operational data on employee behavior. Employees’ time can be tracked at work stations, in break rooms, or to alert on tasks which take longer than the expected duration. In rapid manufacturing environments, slowdowns can have substantial effects on delivery dates or cause bottlenecks which affect the rest of the manufacturing process. Early detection and intervention of those areas can save money and improve efficiency.

In the retail domain, Loitering event can be used as a customer behavior data collection tool, in A/B testing of new displays or signage for effectiveness, tracking wait times. In addition, notifications can be generated for customers loitering in front of displays or kiosks too long to send employees for assistance.

In the security domain, Loitering event is used to detect suspicious activity, such as someone attempting to break into a building or waiting for an opportunity to tailgate.

Optional settings are available to fine-tune the event, including:

  • Idle duration, in seconds, minutes, or hours.
  • Maximum allowable object movement.
  • Unlimited number of event zones can be used to select alert regions.

When combined with compound events and flexible output trigger options, Loitering can be further refined, to be used for meeting custom video analytics requirements with our off-the-shelf product without the need for any development time. For example, a loitering event paired with a machine stoppage alert could indicate a higher priority alert, for immediate action.
