Dwell Event is available in intuVision VA’s Manufacturing and Retail modules.
Dwell tracks the duration a person or object stays in one location, with an allowable amount of movement. Different alarm duration levels can be used for example in front of a new end-cap to obtain data on number of people, dwelling less than a minute, 1-5 minutes, and 5+ minutes.
Leveraging the patented intuVision VA stationary object detector, objects which have come to a stop and stay at a standstill or meander slowly, are maintained allowing alerts after the user set durations. Depending on the use case, the maximum allowable object center movement setting accounts for people pacing, slightly moving in place, or crouching down.
Unlimited number of event zones can be used as small or broad as needed to select alert regions, demarking the store or manufacturing floor into smaller sections, tracking separate dwell metrics around each end-cap or at each workstation.
In the manufacturing domain, Dwell is used to collect data for optimizing production procedures. By reporting how long employees spend at each station, bottlenecks are highlighted, showing areas where adjustment is needed. Dwell times at each work area can be compared against the Standard Operating Procedure, to understand employee efficiency levels, and to determine if additional tools or more staff need to be allocated to certain tasks.
In the retail domain, Dwell can be used to collect A/B data on signage, to highlight areas of confusion, or to show where customers are engaged with employees. Depending on the location and the application, a longer dwell time maybe ideal – showing customers are engaged with signage – or it can may point to problems – such as customer confusion about products or having a hard time selecting between multiple options.
Dwell data is accessed through intuVision VA reporting, exported in CSV format or accessed through intuVision Data API for ingestion into other data management applications. Dwell includes a custom report type, which shows the average dwell time for each event and region.
Data is saved within intuVision VA for 2 years by default, with the option to extend that duration. Comparison reports showing counts over different time periods such as week-to-week, month-to-month are available.

When combined with compound events and unlimited object classification options, Dwell Event can be further refined, to meet custom video analytics requirements with our off-the-shelf product without the need for any development time. For example, Dwell measurements in front of a new sign can be charted against the number of people counted entering the advertised part of the store.
