intuVision VA Fall Detection

Fall Detection Event is available in intuVision VA’s Manufacturing and Security/Safety modules.

Fall Detection tracks people in the scene, alerting if they fall and stay fallen for a user set amount of time. When a short duration is used, it detects for instance if someone slips in unsafe work conditions, or longer duration to detect an attack or illness.

Fall Detection can also be used in the hospital application as part of a fall-risk patient and elderly monitoring scenarios. While the primary goal of this solution in the hospital monitoring setting would be to detect at risk patients getting out of bed and alert the nurse staff, Fall Detection is also critical to issue alerts if a fall did happen.

Leveraging the patented intuVision VA stationary object detector, objects which have come to a stop and stay at a standstill are maintained allowing alerts after the user set durations. Object classification and size constraints are used to detect when a person’s posture has changed to being on the ground or crouched. Depending on the camera view, the person’s position relative to the ground is also used as a data point in differentiating a fall from safe person behavior.

In the manufacturing domain, Fall Detection is used to track unsafe surfaces or employee tasks, to send help immediately to assist in the case of a fall, and expedite changes to make the workplace safer. Fall Detection event pairs well with the surface anomaly detector which can be used to detect spills, and resolve issues before injuries happen.

In the security and safety domains, Fall Detection is used to quickly and efficiently direct emergency or hospital staff. Often with falls, early intervention is the differentiator between a minor medical issue and serious injuries. Fallen patient or people in crisis are not always able to request support directly, and others may not be around to intercede for them.

Optional settings are available to fine-tune the event, including:

• Idle (dwell) duration, in seconds, minutes, or hours.
• Person’s location relative to the floor.

When combined with compound events, unlimited object classification options, and flexible output trigger options, Fall Detection Event can be further refined, to meet custom video analytics requirements with our off-the-shelf product without the need for any development time. For example, detected fall instances can trigger audio alerts to direct personnel to accident site. intuVision Review application facilitates investigation of incidents– i.e. to determine if a patient was left unattended, if there was a spill that made the floor unsafe, or if smoke or gas was detected.
