intuVision VA Event - Speed Detection

Speed Detection is a manufacturing, security, and traffic event which estimates the speed of objects such as vehicles, moving machinery or people and detects when they exceed the user specified speed.

Speed Detection Event

Speed Detection Event is available in intuVision VA’s Manufacturing, Security, and Traffic modules.

Speed Detection estimates the speed of the objects such as vehicles, moving machinery or people and detects when they exceed the user specified speed. Speed event can be used both for data collection purposes, recording average speed of different types of vehicles, as well as for generating alerts on vehicles going over posted speed limits.

Speed estimation is done by measuring the time it takes for an object to pass between the marked edges of the event zone, based on the distance between those edges. While this provides a reasonably accurate speed estimate, it does not replace a radar speed detector.

In the manufacturing domain, Speed Detection Event can be used to ensure safe operation of forklifts and other heavy, moving equipment. With speeds detected and event image snapshots stored, management and security staff can readily review instances and issue warnings to employees operating machinery at unsafe speeds.

In the security domain, Speed Detection can be used in parking lots and private roads to keep people and residents safe. With image snapshots, warnings can be issued based on license plate. Speed event can also be used to detect when people are running – a possible indicator for a dangerous event.

In the traffic domain, Speed Detection is used to collect data on average speeds of vehicles, as well as issue warnings. For environmental and traffic studies, average speed by vehicle type – trucks, passenger vehicles, motorcycles, busses – is recorded and compared with other data. Speed data can also be used to indicate to police forces ideal times and locations to issue citations.

Optional settings are available to fine-tune the event, including:

  • The speed limit in mph or km/h
  • The distance over which the speed will be measured in feet or meters (decimals are allowed for higher accuracy)

When combined with compound events and unlimited object classification options, Speed Detection can be further refined, to be used for meeting custom video analytics requirements with our off-the-shelf product without the need for any development time. For example, alerting on different speed limits for trucks and passenger vehicles.
