intuVision VA Event - Congestion Detection

Congestion Detection, available in intuVision VA Traffic, detects traffic back-ups in marked zones on roads, exit ramps, and intersections, alerting when the congestion has reached the user set level for the specified duration.

Congestion Detection Event

Congestion Detection is available in intuVision VA’s Traffic module.

Congestion detects traffic back-ups in marked zones on roads, exit ramps, and intersections, alerting when the congestion has reached the user set level for the specified duration. This event is ideal in alerting police to incidents and for investigating historic congestion levels. Congestion detection looks at overall activity in the region and the alarm density can be customized to each scene, setting levels for low, medium, and high, to declare the alarm points. A congestion meter overlay on the video shows the current congestion level at any given time, making adjustments easy.

Multiple zone selection allows for lane-by-lane congestion tracking, as well as alerts on specific road segments, such as the middle of intersections. intuVision VA allows for unlimited instances of each event on each camera, this facilitates monitoring congestion separately for each leg of an intersection with separate labeling for easy tracking.

Congestion alerts can be sent via email, or directly within the intuVision Review Application upon detection of a traffic blockage to enable quick action and early resolution to the cause of the congestion.

As a data collection event, congestion can be used to track congestion incidents, highlighting regions where additional infrastructure is needed or where signage can be addressed. Historical congestion data can be accessed through intuVision VA reporting, exported into CSV files, or accessed through intuVision Data API for ingestion into other data management applications. Data is saved within intuVision VA for 2 years by default, with the option to extend that duration. Comparison reports showing counts over different time periods such as week-to-week, month-to-month are available.

Optional settings are available to fine-tune the event, including:

  • Congestion density level slider, to select low, medium, and high alert levels.
  • Minimum time for alert at a density alert, in seconds, minutes, and hours.

When combined with compound events and output trigger options, Congestion Detection can be further refined, to be used for meeting custom video analytics requirements with our off-the-shelf product without the need for any development time. For example, Congestion Detection can be used in conjunction with Smoke and Fire detection as an indicator of an accident.
