New Model-Based Object Detection

Anna Vacha

Coming soon - new model-based detection method for intuVision VA and intuVision Edge. Pixel-based detection has been intuVision's proven standard technology to detect and track moving objects and classify them into user trained categories. Our new model-based detection method uses a comprehensive list of pre-trained models to detect matching objects in video scenes.

All intuVision VA modules: Security, Traffic, Parking, Retail, Face and Text Detection now offer two complementary alterantives - providing the most reliable detection and tracking, no matter the challenges present in your project and camera view.

Pixel-Based Object Detection is our patented foreground/background segmentation-based object detection. This is a flexible method of tracking active objects in a scene, which allows for detection of unclassified or unclassifiable objects, flexible camera views, and a wide variety of event rules across many application areas. This allowed for in-situ classification training, with just 5 samples in 2 categories – allowing rapid training on highly flexible categories, from people to fish.

With this latest release, we are introducing an alternative method of detection: Model-Based Object Detection. This uses pre-trained models to detect classified objects – providing an alternate method of detection, and expanding the reach of intuVision VA to even more scenes and environments.

The model-based detection method shines in person and vehicle counting environments, those with low camera views, or scenes where shadows are causing issues with the detection. Pixel-based detection methods will work best in security applications, those where the object type is not known ahead of time or is unusual, custom applications, or projects with top-down camera views.

Below you can see our new pixel-based detection in action. This video highlights the differences between the two detection methods and showcases scenes and application areas where each shine.
