intuVision Traffic in Action on Drone Video

Anna Vacha

Below is an example of intuVision VA Traffic applied to drone footage of a busy intersection, where it counts vehicles in each direction and generates a turn count report at the conclusion.

Despite the challenges associated with using video analytics on drone footage—such as potential scene movement, the presence of very small objects, and atypical camera angles—intuVision VA performs effectively in this environment, accurately counting vehicles and detecting turn count data.

In the video, intuVision VA counts vehicles in real time as they enter and exit the intersection from each direction, labeled as North, East, South, and West. In the video you can see the counts increment as vehicles are counted - and are available for reporting or export.

intuVision VA Traffic is suitable for both real-time processing and post-processing of video files. In deployments involving drone-collected data, the typical setup involves recording the video either on-board the drone or via a tether, which is then transferred to the office for processing. Using intuVision Post-Processing, the video can be processed up to 30 times faster than real time, with counts labeled according to the timestamp of the video.

Furthermore, compound events simplify the setup for collecting the O/D matrix data shown in the graph. These compound events allow users to combine intuVision VA events in various ways. For example, a specific vehicle can trigger selected events in a defined sequence, such as vehicle #1529 entering the intersection from the East and exiting via the West.
