Preventing Tailgating through Vehicle Gates

Anna Vacha

Low cost, high accuracy alternative to hardware anti-tailgate solutions. Minimal configuration, simple setup and reliable performance to mitigate security concerns due to vehicle tailgating.

The Challenge

Vehicle tailgating presents security threats for garages, gated communities and breaches into secure facilities. Traditional hardware anti-tailgating solutions can be prohibitively expensive and invasive to install, yet can still be deceived.

The Solution - intuVision VA Tailgating

Leveraging robust vehicle detection and counting analytics combined with access control device triggers potential tailgating instances are detected and alerts are rised for immediate action

Equipment-at-a-Glance

Hardware: Axis IP camera and I/O Module, exacQvision NVR (running VMS & intuVision VA).

Software: intuVision VA Security

Deployment Details

intuVision’s flexibility in processing video from cameras or compatible VMSs and ingesting access token information from access control or payment devices, make our vehicle tailgating detection a versatile solution across use cases.

A sample deployment using an exacqVision VMS and receiving access information from an Axis I/O module is outlined below.

Video from the camera viewing the parking facility entry gate is ingested from exacqVision VMS, and processed directly on the VMS hardware to detect and count vehicle entrances. Since intuVision VA is an Exacq Certified Software Application, it can be directly installed on the VMS without the need for additional hardware to run the analytics.

Based on the site requirements, vehicle entrances are matched against access authentication, or payment validation information received from the Axis I/O module. intuVision VA raises an alarm, if two vehicles are detected entering for one valid access code or two vehicles are detected exiting for a single payment authorization. The alarm sends a trigger back to the I/O module, sounding a buzzer or activates a contact closure to lock a secondary gate to allow intervention by garage security personnel.
